Rainiers Recall Vancouver's Playing Manager
SEATTLE, Aug. 8—Seattle Rainiers of the Pacific Coast League took steps today toward recalling Eddie Carnett of the Vancouver Capilanos after Rainiers' first baseman, Earl Torgeson, was forced out of play for the remainder of the season.
Carnett is playing first and managing the Capilanos in the Western Internatonal League. Rainiers have a close tie-up with Vancouver.
Torgeson, under option to the Boston Braves, dislocated a shoulder and pinched a nerve which Dr. William A. Glasgow, team physician, said would bench him for the rest of the season.
The injury occurred when the Snohomish, Wash., youth slid head first into third base during the fourth inning of Seattle's 4-2 win over San Francisco last night.
If Bob Brown, owner of the Capilanos, needs another playing manager to replace Carnett, the Rainiers will send one of their more experienced men to Vancouver, Seattle official Torchy Torrance said.
