VICTORIA, Aug. 10—Bob Jensen fired a third strike past 17 hitters as Victoria swept a double-header from Yakima, 17-6 and 10-1.
Jensen now has 241 strike outs, seven short of the league standard set by Tacoma's Floyd Iskite in 1938.
He retired the side on strikes in the third, fourth, eighth and ninth innings of the night game.
He scattered four hits and lost his shutout in the ninth when errors by Raimondi and Bob Stumpf permitted an unearned run.
The A's pounced on starter Keith Simon in the third and drove him to the showers with a five-run outburst. Bob Paulson drove in four runs with a pair of timely singles, but was tossed in the eighth inning for arguing balls and strikes.
In the opener, Ed Murphy and Bill Dunn both hit three-run homers, while Bob Cherry and Beans Marionetti added seventh-inning solo shots.
During the game, the Athletics announced the signing of Tony Chapetta, ex San Diego pitcher who had been released by Yakima.
