A's Obtain Paulson; Sign New Pitcher
[Victoria Colonist, June 25, 1946]
Victoria Athletics have again added strength to their weaker department by signing two new players, business manager Reg Patterson announced yesterday. Bob Paulson, property of the New York Yankees, who has been one of the Spokane Indians' number one catchers, will join the A's immediately.
Second newcomer is Doug Oliver, a right-hander who hails from Oakland. He too is an ex-Indian, having been released after breaking his thumb earlier this season.
Catcher Joe Fontaine, recently Athletics acquisition and former Portland semi-pro ball player, will probably be sent to play for the Twin Falls entry in the Pioneer League. He will remain Victoria property, however.
Patterson also divulged the fact that Joe Devine, New York Yankees' scout on the Pacific Coast, will visit here this week during the Vancouver series.
