Taooma Player Tops W.I. League Hitters
SEATTLE, — Dick Kemper of Tacoma ranked as the Western International league batting leader in the latest Howe Bureau compilation, but it was a blanket race with only a bare .001 percentage point seperating the top trio.
Kemper had an average of .365 through August 11, while Glenn Stetter of Wenatchee and Dan
Amaral of Bremerton each had .364.
Duane Crawford, Salem, was fourth with .357. and Ray Orteig, Vancouver, and Spencer Harris,
Yakima, were lied for fifth with .351.
Mel Walsey, Wenatchee, led in total hits with 157, and Dick Adams, a teammate, led in runs batted in, 86.
Pitching honors were shared by Milt Cadinha, Spokane, and Gene Babbitt, Wenatchee. Each had won 14 and lost 4.
Tacoma led the team batting with .289. Bremerton was runner-up with .284 and Yakima third with .282.
In team fielding, Bremerton was the pace-setter with .956, followed by Vancouver's .953 and Wenatchee's .949.
