VANCOUVER, July 1—The new manager of the Vancouver Capilanos gave some immediate help to his team, smacking a homer and a double to lead them to a 13-8 win over the Tacoma Tigers in the first of two games Monday from the Tacoma Tigers.
Jim Estrada and Reg Clarkson homered for Vancouver, and Estrada batted in four runs. Clarkson added a double and two singles, while Ray Orteig had three hits and brought in three runs.
Tacoma took the night contest 8-5, though the Caps threatened in the ninth inning. They didn't score as Fred Marsh pulled down Orteig's hard liner for a double-play to end the game.
Lou Estes smacked four singles in a losing cause for Vancouver. Orteig doubled and singled, and brought in two runs.
Carnell, normally a first baseman, pitched the final three innings for the Caps.
